Welcome to the website of Cutting Edge Writers.
Cutting Edge Writers have been meeting at The New Cut in Halesworth, Suffolk, for over ten years. Our weekly Friday morning sessions are aimed at writers of all levels and take place in an informal, friendly setting. Members discuss and critique their work within a constructive feedback process designed to develop writing skills and boost confidence.
A typical session begins with a writing challenge to prompt ideas and inspiration for beginners and experienced writers alike. Exercises might address issues such as editing, grammar and punctuation, or more specific aspects of the creative writing process like point of view, dialogue, structure and plot. Then we pause for coffee, and often cake, before critiquing each others’ work in our endeavour to support and nurture members’ abilities and aspirations. For those who wish to participate, a homework brief is set each week, with a diverse range of subjects.
Occasionally we tackle poetry and it has been rewarding to see the recent progress of members previously disinterested in the form. Poetry relies on different writing techniques from those of prose and there is a now a confidence in tackling all kinds of rhymes or free verse and even set forms.
Some members are working on novels; others prefer to write short stories, poetry or non-fiction. We have self-published two volumes of collected short stories and poetry, available from Amazon, with a third volume already in production.
